The Covid pandemic has affected the whole world since the beginning of 2020 and especially in African countries where the number of health personnel, the number of intensive care beds, laboratory capacity, clean water and infrastructure facilities, Covid tests and treatment facilities are insufficient, it is worried that the pandemic will increase the number of cases and deaths by affecting larger populations. The World Health Organization reported positive cases of Covid from all 47 countries in the African Region. In addition, Djibouti, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Somalia, Sudan and Tunisia, which are not members of the WHO African Region, have also reported their cases. A modeling study reported that 250 million cases of Covid-19 and 190,000 deaths could occur in Africa within the first year of the pandemic. Researchers estimate that 4.6-5.5 million people may require hospitalization and these patients will rapidly deplete health resources, potentially affecting health efforts to control HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. According to this study, younger and healthier Africans will be at higher risk for undiagnosed diseases and geographic and socio-economic impacts will cause a slower spread of disease across the continent. However, it is predicted that the epidemic may last longer than in other parts of the world.
The population in the vast majority of the continents are living in urban areas without closed toilets, limited access to drinking water, electricity or wastewater facilities. Less than half of the population has access to public toilets shared by many households. Water is usually collected from vertical and fixed pipes, boreholes and protected wells. Charcoal is still used as the primary source for cooking operations, and cooking is often done in open spaces among residents. Also, packed street markets are the main source for much needed essential. It is difficult to predict how much society will adapt to physical distancing and increased hygiene practices. According to current information, living in crowded households causes the rate of spread of Covid-19 disease to increase.
It is not possible to implement physical distance in unplanned areas of megacities with high population density in Africa. Where unregistered employment is widespread, the social and economic consequences of quarantines will be severe. Many people face food insecurity and economic crisis during quarantine. Although the young population in Africa is considered an advantage, it should not be forgotten that malnutrition, high HIV and tuberculosis prevalence in the region may increase the need for intensive care.
In order not to support our brothers in Africa in this health crisis and to support prevention of malnutrition, we slaughter all of your Qurbani in Africa this year and distribute them to orphanages in order to contribute to a healthier diet for families and children in rural areas. We have been working day and night for months to realize the sacrifice organization that will be held under the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic without any disruption. Like every year we will take the necessary precautions, even if we are dealing with a pandemic, in order to control the slaughter preparations and to carry out the organization in a healthy way with our teams. The slaughter and distribution will take place in many regions spread out in three African countries.
